Course story
Course story
Chambers Bay was a sand and gravel quarry until Pierce County decided to turn it into public golf. Robert Trent Jones Jr. used the pits and spoil heaps as they were, producing enormous elevation changes, fescue throughout and views down to Puget Sound from nearly every hole. It opened in 2007 and hosted the US Open in 2015, which is an unusually fast ascent and did not go entirely smoothly: the greens drew heavy criticism that week. The course has since been regrassed. A single fir tree stands beside the 15th and serves as the landmark for the whole property.
