Course story

Chicago Golf Club was the first eighteen hole course built in the United States and one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. Charles Blair Macdonald laid it out on open Illinois farmland, and Seth Raynor rebuilt it in the 1920s with the geometric bunkering and template greens that defined his work. The land is almost flat, with no ocean, no dunes and no forest to lean on, which makes what is there more impressive. Out of bounds runs down much of the right side, so the course asks a specific question of anyone who moves the ball that way.
