Course story
Course story
Erin Hills sits on glacial terrain west of Milwaukee, all kettles, moraines and long open ridges. Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry and Ron Whitten routed the course across it in 2006 with minimal earthmoving and no trees to speak of, so the wind runs unobstructed and the sight lines are enormous. It is walking only. The US Open came in 2017, early in the course's life, and produced a winning score of sixteen under that led to a good deal of argument about whether the setup had been too generous. The scale of the place does not come across on television.
