Course story
Course story
Oak Hill's East Course opened in 1926 on land in Rochester, and thousands of oaks were planted by a club member over the following decades, which gave the course its character and eventually its problem. By the 2000s the trees had closed in far enough to change how holes played. A restoration by Andrew Green stripped many of them out and recovered Ross's original width and bunkering, and the course that reappeared was better than the one that had been hidden. Oak Hill has hosted US Opens, PGA Championships and a Ryder Cup, and tends to produce winners who drive the ball straight.
