Course story
Course story
Robert Trent Jones Sr. opened Spyglass Hill in 1966 and gave it one of the better opening sequences in golf. The first five holes run down through sand dunes with the Pacific in front, and the 1st is a long par 5 that drops towards the water. Then the course turns inland and spends the remaining thirteen holes climbing through the Del Monte forest, where it becomes considerably harder and considerably darker. Players in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am consistently score worst here. The holes are named after Robert Louis Stevenson characters, which suits the place.
