Course story
Course story
Jack Nicklaus built Valhalla outside Louisville in 1986 across two quite different pieces of ground: open bottomland for the front nine and wooded, rocky higher terrain for the back. For a course that young it has an unusual record, including three PGA Championships and a Ryder Cup. The 2000 PGA is the one people replay, when Tiger Woods and Bob May traded birdies through a three hole playoff that neither seemed willing to lose. The 13th, a par 3 to an island green set in an old rock quarry, is the hole the cameras return to.
