Course story
Course story
The land Pete Dye was given in the 1990s was a flat former military airfield on Lake Michigan. He moved an enormous quantity of earth to build dunes, dropped in roughly a thousand bunkers and ran the course along two miles of shoreline. The result looks convincingly like an Irish links to anyone who has not been told otherwise, and sheep are kept on the property to complete the impression. Whistling Straits hosted the 2021 Ryder Cup, where the American side won by the largest margin in the modern era. The 7th, played along the water with the lake filling the background, is the hole that sells the place.
